MFL Homeschool Mix It Up - Literacy Club
Come to Middletown Free Library for Homeschool Mix It Up time! Mondays 1:30-3:30PM. (No meeting on Sept. 5th.) We will mix it up with different challenge activities each week, which may include: formidable paper folding puzzles, advanced library seek-and-finds, strenuous coordination/sports challenges, random book discussions, silly creative writing prompts, funny group story writing (think Mad-Libs...), cursive writing practice, inventing secret coded messages (let's learn Morse code!), difficult but fun math games (like Krypto), spelling bees, geography bees, fun paper airplane races, and more. Drop in for one activity or stay for the whole time.
SPECIAL THIS WEEK**: Literacy Club Discussion! All participants (parents too) will be expected to have a favorite book in mind, and to be ready to discuss it. Be ready to say why you liked the book, who wrote it, explain the characters and setting, give a brief summary of the plot, and tell us why you might recommend it to a friend.
We will then do a craft about the book. You can choose a board book, picture book, easy reader, fiction or nonfiction novel, or graphic novel. No foul language or violent/suggestive content. You do not have to have the book with you, but you can bring it if you want.
Check in at the front desk. Registration required. Masks optional. Designed for kids ages 7-11 who like to think hard and want more of an academic challenge. But all ages and abilities are welcome! Please specify the number of children you are registering so that we have enough materials available.
Bring a blanket as we will go outside if it is nice.
Parents are expected to participate in the activities with your child, and remain in the room. This is NOT a drop-off event. Students and parents are expected to listen respectfully during the presentation and model good listening skills and polite behavior at all times. Thank you in advance.
