A Summer Sleepover On The USS New Jersey

A Summer Sleepover On The USS New Jersey

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 4:30PM - SUNDAY, JULY 17, NOONTIME

MEN AND WOMEN, AGES 18+

$75 PERSON

REGISTRATION CLOSES June 11, 2022

Welcome to OCEANS OF POSSIBILITIES!

Are you passionate about once in a lifetime experiences? Radnor Memorial Library invites men and women, ages 18+ to join our group (minimum 25 persons is required) to experience a trip back in time and a chance to live like a sailor who worked on board the 45,000-ton USS New Jersey (BB-62), beginning in 1943 until 1991. https://www.battleshipnewjersey.org/visit/.

NOTE: This is a rare opportunity folks. As you know, the USS New Jersey is not a hotel so you just can't "book a room". Our group of grownups was granted special permission to stay overnight on the Battleship. This is not a fundraiser for the Library and ALL money is handed over to them.

During our overnight stay, we’ll “chow down” in the Crew’s Mess (dinner and breakfast), tour the Battleship, sleep in a bunk, stow gear in a locker, and more. For one unforgettable night we’ll have the privilege of learning all about the most decorated battleship in Navy history that earned distinction in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and Beirut/Lebanon. Launched on the first anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the New Jersey led the Pacific Fleet under Admirals Spruance and Halsey and fought in the two largest naval battles in history. She was decommissioned for the final time in February, 1991. Since that time the New Jersey has continued her service as a living museum and memorial in Camden, New Jersey, just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia where she was built.

Need more details about your sleepover? We are adults here so disregard info about scouts when you read it:

Visit https://www.battleshipnewjersey.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/PB0120-1.pdf for important information on the physical requirements and descending steep steps.

Any questions? Contact Pam Sedor at RML, 610-687-1124 x62

After you register, mail your check or money order made payable to the Library ASAP and send to:

(please indicate in the note field USS NEW JERSEY)

Radnor Memorial Library

114 W. Wayne Avenue

Wayne, PA 19087

All “sailors” who register and send payment to the Library will be contacted by email after registration closes on JUNE 11, 2022. This email will confirm receipt of your payment and more details about your sleepover.

Transportation will not be provided and we encourage carpooling to the Camden Parking Authority Waterfront Garage located at 10 Delaware Ave. Camden, New Jersey. Cost is $12.50 per vehicle. A shuttle bus will be running from the Garage on Saturday from 4:30-6:30 PM and again on Sunday. It is strongly recommended that you arrive at the garage no later than 5:00PM on Saturday. All sailors must disembark by noon on Sunday.

Our group will be less than 100 people so we may be able to park on Clinton Street and not need a shuttle. Stay tuned...

Morning Colors on the faintail? Unbridled youthful excitement? It will make you giddy!
