Look-See Art --Reflections: Mirrors, Bubbles, Glass with Lynn Berkowitz, MFA, BFA Online
Reflections in art—seen within mirrors or glancing off bubbles and glass—have a long history of symbolism in art. The use of mirrors can give meaning to the illusion of space, can acknowledge the light source, can make a profound connection to the artist or others held within, or can express deeper meanings connected to ideas concerning vanity. Bubbles can speak of moments of delight or the brevity of life itself. Glass--that holds and shields can crack, shatter, and distort the light passing through in countless mysterious ways. Reflections can also act as a way of looking inwards; a way to grapple with identity and the very ideas of ‘seeing’ and ‘being seen.’
In this session, we will use multimedia and interactive strategies for seeing and appreciating art that will lead to artful and creative conversations. The selected range of paintings will include portraits, still life, and genre scenes drawn from different times in art history giving you the chance to observe them in a decidedly different way.
Lynn Berkowitz, MFA, BFA, with a career in art museums, has developed an array of award-winning gallery tours, experiences, and apps aimed at helping audiences of all ages and abilities engage with a diversity of art ‘isms and approaches.
