Longwood Gardens Community Reads Event ('SOAR' with Marple Public Library) with Miss Mel on Facebook Live!

Longwood Gardens Community Reads Event ('SOAR' with Marple Public Library) with Miss Mel on Facebook Live!

Let’s SOAR together! Join Miss Mel for a reading of the Longwood Garden Community Read Book selection Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson. In our book, we will meet an absolutely amazing young girl, Ruby, who realizes that birds are amazing too! We will get to explore varieties of birds on each and every page of this glorious story to ‘spark’ our imaginations to soar like a bird. After our reading, Miss Mel will show you how to make your very own bird feeder out of recycled materials. This craft was inspired by the National Audubon Society kid’s page, https://www.audubon.org/get-outside/activities/audubon-for-kids#week1 , where you can learn so much more about the wonderful world of birds. Through this link, you can also enjoy countless free and super fun activities that you can do straight from home.

Also, check out this other amazing link in our book today from Celebrate Urban Birds, https://celebrateurbanbirds.org/ 'Celebrate Urban Birds connects people to birds and the natural world through neighborhood activities and the arts. So cool!

Stay tuned on our Facebook page immediately following this program for a special video presentation from Miss Sarah and our feathered friends at Indraloka Animal Sanctuary. In this video, Miss Sarah will feature chickens, ducks, peafowl, turkeys, geese, and possibly some quail. She will talk about their friendships, seasonal habits, nutritional needs, and unique attributes.

We are also so happy to announce a special raffle opportunity to win a family pass to Longwood Gardens. During the storytime reading of Ruby’s Birds, add a comment about what you like about birds, or what your favorite bird is, and you will be automatically be entered into this raffle. Join us right back here for storytime tomorrow at 10:30am via Facebook Live @ Marple Public Library Facebook page and we will pick our raffle winners.
