Synagogues of Philadelphia

Synagogues of Philadelphia

Author Ira Poliakoff will discuss his latest book, Synagogues of Philadelphia, which tells the histories of many of the more than 500 synagogues that exist or have existed in the five-county region.

Philadelphia has one of the most vibrant Jewish communities in the nation. It is home to Congregation Mikveh Israel, our nation’s third oldest synagogue. Throughout the years, the city and the suburban counties have maintained a rich tradition of Jewish houses of worship. For the book, Ira conducted numerous interviews, researched in archives and libraries, and compiled over 150 photographs and reproductions of historical documents.

At this talk, Ira will discuss this colorful and important history of our area.  A Q&A session will follow.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
