Native & Keystone Plants presented by Penn State Master Gardener
This gardening talk introduces gardeners of all experience levels to the ecological importance of native and keystone plants in sustainable landscapes. Participants will explore the defining characteristics of native keystone species and their critical role in supporting local ecosystems, including pollinators and wildlife. The session will guide attendees how to identify keystone plants suited to your specific region, along with an overview of commonly recognized keystone genera. In addition, the presentation will examine the concept of native cultivars, helping gardeners make informed decisions when selecting plants for both ecological value and garden performance. By the end of the session, attendees will have a foundational understanding of how to incorporate native keystone plants into their own landscapes.
