Foods of Ancient Egypt with Dr. Steve
This highly illustrated lecture explores the foods and drinks of ancient Egypt—what they consumed, how meals were prepared, and the evidence that tells us their story. From everyday dinners to ceremonial feasts, we’ll uncover the staples of the Egyptian table and trace how many of their culinary traditions spread across the Mediterranean, influencing ancient Greece and Rome.
Dr. Stephen R. Phillips, Curatorial Research Coordinator in the Egyptian Section of the Penn Museum, is an expert in Egyptian archaeology and mummification. With over 30 years of excavation experience in Egypt, Jordan, and France, he studies human remains and mummies to uncover what life was like in ancient Egypt. Registration is required
