Lit Legends: The Brontë Sisters
Books like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights are popular for their gothic elements: ghostly noises, spectral images, and voices calling across the moors. We’ll explore how these stories were shaped by some very non-fantastical elements that many Victorian women—including Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë—experienced. Understanding these books alongside this context will help us appreciate the value of what the Brontë sisters contributed to their society, as well as the value of their works today.
Presented by Dr. Nina Benhardus, Assistant Professor of English at Delaware County Community College. Warm beverages and light snacks will be provided.
