2025-2026 The History of the Modern Middle East

History Forum meetings are held in-person at the Lansdowne Library and virtually on Zoom simultaneously.

Over the next 2 years we will examine the forces and events from the late 19th Century to the founding of the state of Israel in 1948 in order to provide greater context and understanding for the multiple conflicts troubling the region. Topics will range from the rise of Zionism, the discovery of oil, the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the Armenian genocide.
