Reading Cafe Book Club: The Garden of the Serpent: A Novel of the Civil War by Andrew Miller
Join us IN PERSON as we discuss some great books each month!
This month we will be reading and discussing The Garden of the Serpent: A Novel of the Civil War by Andrew Miller
Author will join us for a Q&A
It is the Civil War and Colonel Michael Baker is the commandant of Fort Harmer on the Delaware, just south of Philadelphia. The old Fort has been converted into a prison for Confederate soldiers; Baker has tuned Fort Harmer into his personal kingdom and rules over a web of murder, bribery, and theft. In the summer of 1864, the War Department sends Major Thomas Lamond to destroy Baker's empire. Lamond, a combat veteran battling demons of his own, finds himself overmatched by the evil he encounters. But with the help of a young Union officer and a Confederate prisoner, he assaults Baker's prison fortress in the swamps of the Delaware River.
Price: $20.00 (all proceeds to Middletown Free Library)
