Kids' Daily Poetry Inspiration

Kids' Daily Poetry Inspiration

Are you getting excited for National Poetry Month in April?  We are!  To help you get inspired, each day during the month of March we will post a fun writing activity from some famous children's poets and authors!  We hope to keep the excitement up by offering the Sublime Rhymes Poetry Reading Challenge in Beanstack which hosts some of the winning poems from our own Delaware County poetry contest!  And don't forget to submit your own poetry to the 34th Annual Young Poets of Delaware County Poetry Contest.

March 26 – Today’s Inspiration: Naomi Shihab Nye

In the book, Seeing the Blue Between, Naomi discusses revision of your work – and gives this advice:

It’s a good idea to give time (an hour, a day, a week) between writing the first draft and revising it.  That space and distance help you see your work with a fresher eye.  Also, she strongly advises that you read your own work out loud to yourself as you revise it. She adds - No need to feel foolish. The best writers do this, and it will help you more than anything else.
