Kids' Daily Poetry Inspiration

Kids' Daily Poetry Inspiration

Are you getting excited for National Poetry Month in April?  We are!  To help you get inspired, each day during the month of March we will post a fun writing activity from some famous children's poets and authors!  We hope to keep the excitement up by offering the Sublime Rhymes Poetry Reading Challenge in Beanstack which hosts some of the winning poems from our own Delaware County poetry contest!  And don't forget to submit your own poetry to the 34th Annual Young Poets of Delaware County Poetry Contest.

March 24 – Today’s Inspiration: Amy Ludwig Vanderwater

In Amy’s book, Poems are Teachers, she recommends using places to inspire poetry.  Here’s a fun activity to help you.  Go on a memory walk.  Sketch a little walk, footsteps of a visit to a place you loved.  Once you have the picture, take each spot and write words next to it about why it is special. You could use your grandmother’s house, your school, Linville Orchards or any place that makes you smile.
