Cracking The Code, Part Two: Introduction to Arabic

Presented by Sherin Motawea

Tuesday, January 31, 7:00pm

Winsor Room

Arabic is a Semitic language spoken primarily across the Arab world. Having emerged in the 1st century, it is named after the Arab people; the term “Arab” was initially used to describe those living in the Arabian Peninsula, as perceived by geographers from ancient Greece.

In Part Two, native Egyptian Sherin Motawea will talk about the origins, writing styles, stories, and commonly used words. You will also learn how to write your name like an Arab. Pieces of art that represent the culture will also be on display.

Motawea is a graduate of the School of Tourism and Hotel Management in Egypt, where she earned a Bachelor of Egyptology. She then obtained her first Master of Arts in Museum and Heritage Studies from University College London, U.K., and then held the position of Head of the Egyptian Museums Department at the Supreme Council of Antiquities under the supervision of the renowned Egyptologist, Dr. Hawass.

The teacher has since conducted several educational programs and later completed a Master of Education degree at Widener University. Sherin Motawea is the proud mother of two daughters.
